Our History

Placerville Brewing Company was formed in the summer of 2005 from the purchase of the assets of the former Hangtown Brewery, Inc. which was at the same location. We like to think we kept the best (the brewer and the beer styles), and changed the rest (almost everything else except the Fish and Chips). We are privileged to be part of a rich tradition of brewing in Placerville which includes The Mountain Brewery (early through mid-1800s) and Ziess Brewery (mid-1800s to Prohibition), and our décor features historical items (an old wooden beer cask, beer shipping crates, photos) from these and other breweries.

What makes us great?

Brewmaster:

New co-owner and the former assistant brewer of The Hangtown Brewery, Steve Meylor, runs Placerville Brewing Company’s brewing operation. Steve was hooked on craft-brewing 15 years ago when he earned a Gold Medal at the El Dorado County Fair for his first ever entry. Since then, he has brewed over 1000 batches of beer, more than 225+ of those commercially. He has longstanding relationships with the highest quality grain and hops suppliers that insure high quality, consistent beer, and his innovative “brew-pub only” beers never disappoint.

Restaurant Manager:

New co-owner Niki Norwood now leads Placerville Brewing Company’s kitchen and floor staff. She has extensive experience in a variety of non-chain food operations, and was voted Best Waitress in Eldorado County in 1990.

 

 

Head Chef:

Placerville Brewing Company is proud to have on staff Chef Gerald Campbell. Chef Gerald comes to us after a successful 6 year run at Gelato’s of Placerville, and leads our team of 5 cooks. Gerald brings with him over 35 years of experience and a resume that would require a website all it’s own, and skills ranging from catering $100+ a plate meals at exclusive parties to pumping out 100 gourmet sandwiches at lunch.

 

BBQ:

Placerville Brewing Company has happily partnered with Hill Country BB-Q owner and real live authentic Texan, Allen Vickers. Allen brings to our menu his 40+ years of barbecuing expertise and award winning barbecue sauces (link to rewards) in the form of delicious pulled pork, smoked sausage, and tri-tip sandwiches, and fall-off-the-bone barbecue baby back ribs.
